Norway House is a population centre of over 5,000[1][2] people, some 30 km (19 mi) north of Lake Winnipeg, on the bank of the eastern channel of Nelson River, in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Norway House, with its mission to connect the United States with contemporary Norway through arts, business, and culture, has built the new center to be a welcoming place for all, with space for receptions, conferences, and meetings. Norway House is located on the ancestral and contemporary lands of Indigenous peoples, in the heart of Minneapolis' American Indian Cultural Corridor--one of the largest concentrations of urban Indigenous peoples in the United States. "The Norway Block" resides on Dakota land ceded in the Treaties of 1837 and 1851, and we acknowledge the complex and layered history that links Norway House to this space and time. The purpose of this acknowledgment is to continue to educate our campus and community about this land, and our relationships with it and one another.

The Norway House has foolproof recipes for gingerbread and royal icing (see below) for an at-home holiday break activity. Make this your trial run — perhaps you'll be among next year's winners. Enter at the grand, new main entrance — part of the Norway House's recent 18,000-square-foot expansion — where a gleaming pine-cone sculpture by Norwegian artist Finn Eirik Modahl greets guests. The structures, part of the ninth annual Gingerbread Wonderland, range from traditional houses fitted with cereal roofs to replicas of Barbie's dream house, skylines and Whoville. A ski hill made from traditional kransekake, sugared rosemary pine trees and Paul Bunyan's shanty, complete with a tortilla-chip roof, were even more evidence that Twin Cities gingerbread architects take this creative mission seriously.

In the winter of 1906–1907, student Charles Clyne ran away from the school after receiving corporal punishment. Charles' feet were badly frostbitten after spending a night in a cabin in the woods, and he was then permanently disabled. Another building was built in 1915, and was then destroyed by a fire in 1946. And again, another was erected in 1954 until it closed permanently in 1967. The exhibit's inspiration stems from our Editor-in-Chief, Lori Ann Reinhall’s impressions from a recent visit to Norway’s Constitution Museum at Eidsvoll.
